If you’re like the rest of us, you’ve probably taken a “snapshot” of your grandfather and grandmother posing in their front yard during your spring visit. You even got a few pictures of them waving goodbye as you drove away to return home. Snapshots make great memories but there’s something else you can do to create photographs that are more precious than just a snapshot. You can create something for generations to come so that they can experience the personalities of their loved ones. This can be done by putting some time and thought into creating photographs that capture the “moment”. In other words, taking a photograph that allows you to say something about that person: a photograph that tells a story. In the example shown, the “story” is about a grandfather passing on his skills as a fisherman to his grandson. He’s passing on what he has learned from his grandfather at a similar moment in time. The photograph is more than a snapshot of somebody waving goodbye. The photograph is something that the grandson can pass on to his children so that they can “know” their great grandfather as he did.
Spend quality time with your family, turn on the “Automatic” or “Portrait” mode and let the camera do all of the technical work. Concentrate on capturing the moment. You’ll be amazed at what you can create!
