Shooting Tips: Adding the "WOW" Factor to Your Images
By Mike Lehner

There are many rules in photography that will help you to capture that great image. Here are two quick tips on perspective that will help to draw the viewer into your image to create that “Wow” factor.

Get Down
If you want to create prize winning images and be the envy of all of your photography inclined friends then concentrate on viewing the world from your subject’s perspective.  In other words, get down to the same level as children, animals, plants, etc, to capture the world from their eyes. This is a great way to help pull the viewer into your image by showing them a world that they are not all that familiar with.

Get Close

Next time you are photographing your favorite subject, try getting close enough to fill the frame with only part of the subject.  For example, the next time you are photographing flowers, pick out one interesting example and then get really close and capture just a part of the example.  This will help to create excitement and impact by offering an alternative view from what we consider as ordinary. If you are using a point and shoot digital camera, you may have to use the “Macro” mode. If you are shooting with a Digital Single Lens Reflex camera you may need to use a dedicated macro lens or a set of close-up filters. The effort will be worth it and the result could be an image that is the envy of your friends.

There is still time to shoot before the weather changes so get outside, or stay inside, and look for interesting subjects and then “get down” and “get close”. You are only limited by your imagination!
